Fire-protected wood
In order for it to be possible to build with wood, as a surface layer or cladding, where there are higher requirements than the wood's natural properties, you need to install a wood product that meets the requirements specified according to fire protection documentation.
Here you will find quick and clear facts about what Woodsafe Timber Protection AB can help you with.

Euro class B-s1,d0
Let us explain
Wooden surface layers in, for example, public spaces often set a higher fire class requirement than the wood itself. But there are more important features to consider.
Euro class B-s1,d0
Let us guide you
Building with wood often requires a better fire class than the wood's own, e.g. euro class B-s1,d0 in public spaces such as hotels, hospitals, schools, sports halls and similar. The fire class is often combined with K210, which in BBR is referred to as K210/B-s1,d0, which means that the material itself must meet the fire property.
Some of the measuring points that are measured are:
- Development of heat energy (THR)
- Smoke development (TSP)
- Burning Intensity Growth Rate (Figure)
- Burning Particles
Property which is classified based on the structure and constituent materials where the prerequisites are described in Field of application. We want to make you aware of this information, for example:
- Is the product approved with an air gap?
- Is the product approved with a painted surface?
- Is the product approved with insulation?
- Is the product approved as a sparse panel?

SP FIRE 105
Let us explain
Wood cladding in Br1 buildings requires the wood cladding to meet the requirements of SP FIRE 105. But there are more important properties to consider.
SP FIRE 105
Let us guide you
Building a wooden facade cladding requires that the cladding meets SP FIRE 105 as an alternative to non-combustible material in building class Br1. According to the testing method, it is the construction that must meet the majority of requirements and where the design and materials used affect the final result.
Some of the measurement points that are measured are:
- Falling parts
- Radiant heat
- Eaves temperature
- Fire spread along the facade
- Fire spread in the structure
Overall, SP FIRE 105 encloses many factors that affect the entirety, and you as a regulatory party or downstream user must be aware of how your facade cladding is structured and also in relation to the type of wood in question.
We also want to draw your attention to the fact that SP FIRE 105 does not say anything about the fire protection's suitability for use in exterior applications. But so does the service class assessment that goes under the standard EN16755 EXT.

Service class
Let us explain
Fire rating is one thing, but what does the fire rating tell us about the product's suitability for different environments? We explain the importance of ensuring the service class.
EN16755 (service class)
Let us guide you
Fire protection systems can meet fire engineering requirements. But the system's properties may be unsuitable for use in exterior environments or in interior environments with high humidity.
Usage classes are divided according to:
- INT1, indoors
- INT2, indoors with higher humidity
- EXT, outdoor use
- Burning particles
For exterior use, it is particularly important to ensure basic prerequisites:
- Is the product approved with requirements for covering facade paint?
- Is the product approved without requirements for covering facade paint?
BS-EN16755 EXT is not equivalent to EN16755 EXT
Great Britain has, for reasons of unusualness in the standards cooperation in Europe, chosen to depart from basic requirement specification according to EN16755 EXT. In practice, the BS standard means that the requirements for the difference between incoming and outgoing fire technical parameters are not assessed. The BS-EN16755 standard has not been adopted by CEN and is not applicable in other member countries.
